9th Russian–Italian Conference on the «Topical Problems of Socially Significant Viral Infections»

The Russian–Italian conference on the «Topical Problems of Socially Significant Viral Infections» was held September 30 to October 2, 2010 in the city of Vologda, Northwestern Federal District.

More than 150 medical specialists in the area of infectious diseases, pediatrics, therapy, epidemiology and anatomical pathology attended the conference. They presented a total of 17 reports on various topical issues: epidemiology of influenza and hepatitis B in Russia and its north-western region, current antiviral therapy capabilities, clinical use of nucleotide analogues in treating chronic hepatitis B, present and future of chronic hepatitis C therapy, pathogenesis of chronic viral hepatitis.

Additionally, the problems of influenza pathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnostics, treatment, and universal influenza vaccine development were considered.

The parties also analyzed data on herpetic infections in obstetrics and gynecology, and HIV and AIDS statistics in Italy.

The conference included a panel discussion of «Chronic Hepatitis B. Current Antiviral Therapy Capabilities» issues and a tutorial on hepatitis B therapy schemes for all interested participants.
